Rick Hutto - Macon City Council Ward 1, Post 1

Committees and Record of Service

Macon City HallIn his first term Rick chaired both the Public Works & Engineering Committee as well as the Rules Committee. He now serves on both the Public Works & Engineering Committee and the Public Properties Committee.

The Macon Telegraph wrote at the end of his first year in office, “Rick Hutto led the meeting call of duty, attending more additional meetings where he wasn’t a member than any other council member.”  On April 22nd of 2007 the Telegraph wrote, “Hutto also outperforms any other member in his average attendance rate at meetings of committees to which he is not assigned,” reporting an attendance rate in that category at the highest on Council. During the 2007 race, the Telegraph wrote, [Three current Council members], “who are all running unopposed, sponsored fewer successful ordinances and resolutions during two terms than Rick Hutto did during a single term… Hutto was the author of many resolutions limiting the powers of Macon's former finance director, Kelly Clark, during a grand jury investigation into city finances.”

Perhaps that is why the Telegraph’s readers voted Rick “Best Council Member” during his 2007 re-election year when he ran for a City-wide at-large Council seat.  Rick defeated an incumbent plus another challenger, garnering 54% and winning without an expected run-off.  Although he continues to live in East Macon, he now officially represents all citizens of Macon no matter where they live.
